Our 100% cashmere scarf is hand made in Kashmir by artisans still working in the traditional way. Authentic handmade cashmere is always finished with a natural fringe and never with tassels or long fringe characteristic of mass produced garments. The scarves measure some 180cm x 45cm.
Cashmere wool is prized for its fineness, softness, warmth and long life. Pure cashmere garments become increasingly soft with wearing. Although finer and lighter in weight than other wool products, cashmere is said to be eight times warmer than sheep wool or wool mixed with silk or other fibres. Only pure cashmere provides the extraordinary warmth necessary for the harsh Himalayan climate and from where these authentic Kashmiri cashmere scarves originate.
The quality of cashmere is influenced by several factors. The fineness and lightness in weight of the fibre is a particularly important indicator which makes best quality cashmere a luxury item that is extremely comfortable to wear. Cashmere should never be fluffy or thick as often seen in poor imitations. Best quality cashmere is gossamer light, has a satin sheen and will never sweat or shed fibres when worn. The finer quality of the cashmere the lighter it is and the more expensive it becomes because these fibres represent the smallest proportion of the fleece. These finer fibres are softer and more difficult to spin and weave.
